.SPORT SUPPORTS THE IAAF’S RUN 24-1 GLOBAL CAMPAIGN

The International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) has become the latest sports organisation to utilise a .sport domain to support Run 24-1, the global running initiative aimed at encouraging runners all over the world to unite.

On 2 June, a series of 24 one-mile runs were contested around the world to celebrate the spirit of Global Running Day.

Partnering with sports ministries, city governments, race organisers and member federations around the world, this initiative by the IAAF brings together 24 cities across 24 countries on six continents to create a worldwide celebration of running.

From Lanzhou, China to Los Angeles in the USA, competitive and amateur runners all over the world took part in the event. It is the second edition of the event and organisers believe that the total number of runners has exceeded the 12,000 that took part in 2018.

Our Run 24-1 event offers people across the world a great opportunity to become part of a global community,” IAAF President Sebastian Coe said. “We know that health and happiness are often closely related to physical exercise, and I’m very happy that we at the IAAF, together with 24 member federations, will make it possible for thousands of people to run their first mile, and hopefully the first of many.

Launched last year, the .sport initiative allows leading members of the sports community to acquire a top level domain name that stands them apart as a recognised player in the sports movement. Each domain has to be accepted by GAISF, ensuring that only reputable organisations are granted a .sport address.

GAISF President Raffaele Chiulli said that the emergence of .sport will have a lasting impact on the digital landscape of sport.

.sport presents a new and exciting opportunity for sports organisations to develop its own digital identity, stand out from the crowd and act as a symbol of authenticity, which is recognised all around the world,” President Chiulli said.

It is great to see the IAAF, one of the biggest International Federations in the world, choosing .sport for this unique event.

The IAAF boasts over 200 member federations and athletics continues to be one of the leading sports at the Olympic Games every four years. More than 12,000 runners participated in the inaugural IAAF Run 24-1 in 2018, taking to the streets in 24 cities across 15 time zones.

Possessing a unique and identifiable domain is a symbol of each organisation’s trust, authenticity and visibility within the sports movement, and offers successful applicants a significant brand-building tool with increased commercial opportunities.

Applications for the .sport extension programme are now open and interested organisations from the world of sport can begin their application at https://start.sport.
